SYNOPSIS:

The Picon Punch – a potent and iconic cocktail ritual invented by American West immigrants – finds itself, and the way of life it represents, in danger of being watered down by the pressures of a modern world.

Piconland: The Quest for the Perfect Picon Punch is a short documentary film directed by Reno author and journalist Mark Maynard that takes viewers on a road trip across Northern Nevada to visit the people and places that make this potent cocktail a ritual for many in the Basque community, and for those who understand its social and cultural connections to the region. The film was selected as the Best Nevada Film at the 2023 Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder City, Nevada – a town where you cannot get a Picon Punch – yet.
