The Boise State University Talks | An Idahoan Named Egurtxiki: The man who learnt Euskara

The Department of World Languages, Basque Studies Minor is proud to announce the 2022 Boise State University “Eloise Garmendia Bieter Chair in Basque Studies” lecture series. This year’s Chair is Dr. Xabier Irujo (Director of the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno).

An Idahoan Named Egurtxiki: The man who learnt Euskara to write about the bombing of Gernika.

William Smallwood “Egurtxiki” conducted more than one hundred clandestine interviews among survivors of the bombing of Gernika in the spring of 1972 and wrote one of the best books on the bombing, The Day Guernica Was Bombed. He passed away last December in Arizona.
