SYNOPSIS:

Eighth century. Christianity is spreading throughout Europe, while pagan beliefs are disappearing. After the attack of the Franks, and with the Carolingian army almost over the Pyrenees, the local bailiff turns to an ancient goddess for help. Thanks to a blood compact, and in exchange for his own life, he defeats the enemy; however, before dying, he makes his son Eneko promise that he will protect his people and guide them in the new era. A few years later Eneko will try to keep his promise by completing a mission: to recover his father’s body.

About the Director – PAUL URKLJO ALIJO

Paul Urkijo Alijo (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava. 1984) graduated in 2008 in Fine Arts, and has worked in the production of audiovisuals, illustration and infographics. He has directed several short films, two of which have appeared in the Kimuak catalogue and screened at San Sebastian Festival: Los monstruos no existen (2012) and Dar-Dar (2020), winner of the Silver Méliès for Best Short Film at Sitges Festival. In 2017 he directed his first feature, Errementari / The Blacksmith and the Devil​ screened in Zinemira and selected for numerous international festivals. The second, Irati, picked up two Goya nominations, in the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song categories, in addition to winning the Audience Award and the Best Special Effects accolade in Sitges.
